You have no idea how happy this makes me. Does this happen to be the "offered only with micron PCs" one? i had that one and when i was trying to make a backup copy of it, it exploded and destroyed not only my drive but also my heart. :( this game takes me way back and one of my favorite games. i tried the titanium edition and it's just Different. The balance in the game seems, off... i dunno. it's more fun on this version.

I know I must sound like a complete noob when I say this but I can't quite get it to work... everytime I open it and press install it just freezes and then quits on its own.. did I not patch it correctly??? Help please!! :D

MRAZININO, did you run it in compatibility mode? Insert the disk, go to the start menu > accessories > program compatibility wizard. Select the program that is in the CD-Drive, set it to windows 95, and disable visual themes. That should fix any installation problems.

i dunno about you but i've tried everything and it still doesn't work. does it work with SP2?

First off i'd like to say thank you very much for this upload mercanis.
I've hunted forever for this game on the pc. To help those having trouble installing I thought i'd take the time to break down the steps in playing/installing


1.Burn/Mount the game iso
2.Install like normal i chose the Full option when it asks, also i did not install the netmech addon

3. After install completes click on the Wm2 dos patch it will unzip a folder in that folder click the setup icon

4. After that finishes click on the xp patch guide it to the C:/activison/mech2

5. Now go to the icon in which you plan to launch the game from *note it cannot be from the Cd* and open its properites once there go over to the compatibiliy tab
Click to enable windows 95 compatability and disable visual themes.

6. Enjoy the amazing game that is Mechwarrior 2

If it wont initiate because of a memory error try it under windows 98 compatibility

I run MW2PATCH and it unzips the folder, but when I try to run the setup, it can't find where Mech2 is installed.

Also, does the fact that I installed it with the actual CD have anything to do with this problem?

Okay, sorry for the triple-comment, but I just realized that what I have is Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. I actually thought that Mercenaries was the surname given to the second Mechwarrior. Sorry 'bout that. -.-'

I downloaded everything, installed all patches, and made sure to run the game in compatability mode (Win 95), yet when i click "Play" on the main menu, it stops and and error box appears, reading "You must insert the Mechwarrior 2 CD". Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Indeed, this is the version of Mechwarrior 2 that came bundled with Micron PCs. I recently tried other PC versions, and this one is by far my favorite.

I have downloaded everything, installed the patch, and started playing the game. It lets me play until i start the mission then theres an error report. HELP ME FIX THIS PORBLEM

I am using Vista. I followed all of the above posted instructions and the game doesn't seem to want to start. All I get is a windowed application that disappears almost immediately. Can anyone help me? I want to play this nostalgic great game!

So I installed everything, all the patches, followed the instructions to the bone and it still wont work. :[[[

I get to the mission briefing screen and click launch and an error report comes on screen (the one that says 'send error report' or 'dont send')
it does that in any event when I want to launch any kind of mission.
AND
since I had access to the mech lab, I customized a hellbringer and now, when I try to scroll through the mechs TO the hellbringer, once i get to it, I get the same error message.

i love this game so much and my hopes were so high when I launched it and it actually worked and got me to the menu.

Help! I have a Vista and whenever I try to get into a mission it just says mission failed.

I'm trying to play this on a UMPC and would like to play in 640x480 or 800x600.

Has this been made impossible with this 'upgraded'version? :)

Never mind - MW2hook seems to work.

so I burned to cd and then tried to install but an error message says its not compatible with my 64 bit OS. So how do I get around that?

oh well it must be a lost cause for me. the install and everything goes fine. i try to run the mw2patch.exe, and it just flashes a DOS window, then goes aways, nothing unpacked. then i try to run the Mech2XPv3.exe patch, i select the folder where the mech2.DLL file is, and it says "File Does Not Match Patch"

Does anyone know if this woks with vista?

With the xp patch, when it tries to run, it says "flie does not match patch" anyone else get this error?

OK same problem with vista not working just say mission failed I don't get to play.

k, this works for me in my unupdated xp. (i believe im running an outdated xp like sp1 since my last reinstall) i guess theres no music because the music was just tracks on the actual cd, but honestly, this game feels hollow without the amazing background music. im gonna try checking another torrent because the amazing music really added atmosphere to this great game. great torrent otherwise, works.

damn. can't get this to install.
I went over all executable files in the CD, checked them all for win95 compatibility and "disablw visual themes" and nothing. when I hit "install" at the autorun program it just quits. what gives? am I missing something?
